William Osler Health System (Osler) launched the Ontario Lung Screening Program (OLSP) in March 2025.
For the past 13 years, Osler has been providing life-saving lung cancer screening services through the High-Risk Lung (HRL) program. We are in the process of transitioning eligible HRL patients into the OLSP resulting in several key advantages, including:
- Alignment with provincial resource allocation and program standards
- Expanded access through patient self-referral options
- Enhanced smoking cessation supports
- Adoption of provincial referral criteria, risk assessment tools, and standardized referral forms
- A robust quality assurance framework to ensure consistent, high-quality care
Once a patient is referred and deemed eligible to participate in the OLSP, all recalls and diagnostic follow-up are managed by OLSP radiologists and staff at Osler.
Osler is able to further grow and expand lung cancer screening services for patients at high risk across our catchment area, ensuring earlier detection and better outcomes.
New OLSP Referral and Eligibility Information:
- Individuals may self-refer by calling 416-747-3400 ext. 39567.
- If eligible, individuals will require an OLSP referral form completed by their primary care provider.
- Individuals who meet the eligibility criteria will be assessed by a nurse to confirm their screening eligibility.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Age 55 to 80 years
- History of daily cigarette smoking for at least 20 years (not necessarily consecutive)
- Must have Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) coverage
- Must not have symptoms of lung cancer
