Caring for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

In this session, our panelists will review Ontario‑based research on health disparities and introduce the Canadian Consensus Guidelines on the Primary Care of Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We will explore practical approaches to physical and mental health care, including preventive screening, chronic disease management, supported decision‑making, and strategies for assessing behaviours that challenge. Practical tools from the Developmental Disabilities Primary Care Program will be highlighted, with case examples demonstrating how they can be applied in everyday family practice.
