Beginning July 2026, TPH is sending letters to parents/guardians of upcoming grade 2 students (born 2019) across all four Toronto school boards who are not up-to-date with their vaccines under the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) (approximately 15,000 students).
Toronto health care providers should expect and plan for an increase in vaccination appointment requests from patients beginning in summer through fall 2026.
The letters will instruct parents/guardians to either:
- Update the student’s vaccine record with TPH, OR
- Visit a primary care provider, walk-in clinic or TPH clinic to get vaccinated.
Multiple notification letters will be sent and parents/guardians will have several months to comply before possible suspension from school. Suspension orders (pink letter) will be issued in Fall 2026.
If a parent/guardian/student presents you with a letter from TPH:
- Review the student’s immunization history. If the student has already received the vaccine(s) listed in the letter. Refer to step 4.
- Visit the Vaccine Ordering from Toronto Public Health webpage to identify how to order the required vaccine(s).
- Administer missing vaccine(s) per Ontario’s Publicly Funded Immunization Schedule.
- Instruct families to report vaccines to TPH using Immunization Connect Ontario (ICON) at toronto.ca/StudentVaccines.
Further details regarding Ontario’s ISPA, including instructions regarding exemptions can be found at toronto.ca/StudentVaccines. Medical exemptions should be completed and sent to TPH via health care providers.
