Welcoming Dr. Ilan Shahin as CW OHT’s Patient Attachment Primary Care Lead

The Central West Ontario Health Team (CW OHT) is pleased to announce that Dr. Ilan Shahin been selected as the new Primary Care Lead for Patient Attachment, playing a critical role in supporting collaboration amongst community providers to expand team-based primary care to increase primary care attachment for people living in Central West.

About Dr. Ilan Shahin

Dr. Shahin has been in practice as a family physician for over a decade across a variety of settings. He maintained a roster as part of a FHG in downtown Toronto before transitioning to emergency medicine in rural settings and eventually at Osler, where he was on staff from 2018 to 2025.

In addition to his medical degree, he holds a Master of Business Administration. He currently works in urgent care in the CW OHT.

In addition to clinical work, he is a Board Director and the Secretary-Treasurer of the Ontario College of Family Physicians, where he has helped on files such as virtual care, pharmacist scope expansion, and most recently the PCAT primary care reforms.

He maintains an online presence where he writes about unattached patients, digital health, and other health policy issues.

Dr. Shahin co-founded ConsultLoop, a former e-referral platform and wait time directory, and he remains active as a thought leader in digital health and entrepreneurship.

About the Role

The CW OHT’s new Primary Care Lead for Patient Attachment will support collaboration amongst community providers to expand team based primary care to increase primary care attachment for people living in Central West.

The individual will support the development and implementation of a multi-year attachment plan for the region.

This includes championing community interprofessional primary care team (IPCT) coordination, and planning for the attachment of the individuals on the CW Health Care Connect wait list.

Dr. Shahin will offer clinical insights and work alongside the OHT Secretariat and key partners, and act as a liaison with the CW Primary Care Network and its Council.
