The opportunity
Leads the planning, development, and implementation of clinical educational programming to strengthen learner and clinical faculty engagement with simulation spaces for teaching, learning, and assessment. This includes advancing the use of standardized patients (SP), Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), clinical anatomy, and related simulation modalities such as Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS). Plays a key role in enhancing simulation-based education by contributing to the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) and Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) programs that incorporate simulation and anatomy technologies. Supports clinical faculty development in simulation and anatomy education and collaborates on initiatives within the School of Medicine’s Simulation and Anatomy Lab (excluding high-fidelity and in situ simulation). Advances the SoM’s commitment to generalism and equity, diversity, and inclusion by ensuring all scholarly needs for UGME and PGME accreditation are met.
Qualifications
Minimum level of education and specialty/discipline required
- Completion of a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent Medical Degree (e.g. MBBS), preferably with advanced training in simulation-based education or healthcare simulation.
- Must have or be eligible for an appointment to the TMU Clinical Faculty at the rank of Assistant Clinical Professor or higher.
- Hold or be eligible to hold an appointment at a TMU medicine-affiliated clinical partner institution or academic health centre.
Minimum number of years and type/area of experience required given minimum education requirement
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a clinician educator.
- Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience in medical education or healthcare, with a focus on simulation or point-of-care ultrasound education-based initiatives.
Required certifications, designation or licences to complete the key responsibilities of the position
- A valid and current licence to practise medicine in Ontario or another Canadian jurisdiction;
- Certified as a clinician by the (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada OR College of Family Physicians of Canada) within a recognized specialty/discipline.
Required skills and demonstrated knowledge
- Excellent knowledge of educational principles and theories across local, national and international levels;
- Knowledge of best practices related to strategic program planning and implementation
- Strong analytical reasoning skills;
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects and assignments concurrently, including planning, coordinating and evaluating a variety of programs and projects simultaneously;
- Effective time management skills;
- Excellent presentation skills with ability to confidently engage and deliver presentations to small and medium-sized groups;
- Creative, strategic and an innovative thinker;
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving work environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain multi-sectoral relationships (i.e., across Universities, hospitals, clinical faculty, and other stakeholders)
