Effective September 18, 2026, Interventional Radiology (IR) at William Osler Health System (Osler) will be using an improved process to manage pre-procedure requirements to align with standardized processes across Osler and support consistent, efficient, and patient-centred approach to care.
As part of this process, in-person pre-procedure consultations will be required only for the following procedures:
- Vascular Angio
- Peritoneal Dialysis catheter insertion
- Fibroid embolization
- Cryoablation
Any in-person appointments that are already scheduled will not be affected by this change.
For all other non-vascular interventional procedures, an IR nurse will review the patient’s chart for readiness and if necessary, the patient will be asked to complete the pre-procedure assessment and address any outstanding requirements.
To support referring providers in preparing patients for their procedure, Osler will provide a Pre-Procedure Requirements document outlining the required medications and preparations needed before the procedure. This document provides a guideline and checklist to ensure all requirements are completed ahead of time and patients are well prepared.
Management Recommendations for Anticoagulant and Antiplatelet Agents are available on Osler’s website for reference to assist referring providers with the pre-procedure management of patients taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications.
These changes are part of our ongoing commitment to people-centred care, improving communication with referring providers, reducing unnecessary delays, and ensuring that patients are well prepared to receive safe, high-quality care.
